God calls Abraham to step into a new normal.
"Now the LORD said to Abram, 'Go forth from your country, and from your relatives, and from your father's house, to the land which I will show you.'" Genesis 12:1
Abraham's new normal required obedience.
"So Abram went as the LORD had spoken to him." Genesis 12:4
Abraham's new normal included grace-filled decisions.
"So Lot chose for himself all the valley of Jordan. . .Abram settles in the land of Canaan. . ." Genesis 13:11-12
Abraham's new normal required he fight for what was right.
"They took all the goods of Sodom and Gomorrah and all their food supply and departed. They also took Lot. . .and his possessions. . ." Genesis 14:11-12
Abraham's new normal still includes faith. Genesis 15:1, 6
Abraham's faith was:
A Personal Faith - "He believed. . ."
A Particular Faith - ". . .in the Lord."
A Promised Faith - "God reckoned it. . ."
A Purifying Faith - ". . .as righteousness."
Life's transitions can happen suddenly.
"Moses the servant of the LORD died. . .God buried him in the valley. Moses was 120 years old, his eye was not dim nor his vigor abated. Deuteronomy 34:5-7
In transitions, there is a time for mourning and a time for moving.
The LORD spoke. . ." Moses my servant is dead; now therefore arise, cross this Jordan, you and all this people to the land I am giving them." Joshua 1:2
Transitions require courageous leaders who:
-Step forward personally
-Hear God regularly
-Obey God precisely
Transitions are tempered by God's presence.
". . .I will be with you; I will not fail you or forsake you. . .do not tremble or be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go." Joshua 1:5; 9
Sarah learned to submit to God's will.
"Then God said, 'I will bless her and give you a son by her. . .' Abraham fell on his face and laughed. . .'You shall call his name Isaac.'" Genesis 17:15-17, 19
Jochebed trusted God and took some risks.
"The woman conceived and bore a son; and when she saw that he was beautiful, she hid him for three months." Exodus 2:2
Rahab broke with her past to embrace her new future.
"I know the LORD has given you the land. . .we heard how the LORD dried up the Red Sea. . .Our hearts melted. . .the Lord your God, He is God in heaven above and on earth beneath." Joshua 2:9-11
Hannah was a prayer warrior.
"Now it came about as she continued praying before the LORD, that Eli was watching her mouth. . .'May God grant your petition you have asked of him.'" 1 Samuel 1:12-17
Esther embraced divine moments.
"And who know whether you have not attained royalty for such a time as this?" Esther 4:14
Mary anchored her life in God's word.
"And Mary said, 'Behold the bondslave of the Lord; may it be done to me according to your word.'" Luke 1:38
The second coming is scriptural.
"Let not your heart be troubled; believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father's house are many dwelling places; if it were not so, I would've told you; for I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again..." John 14:1-3a
The second coming is sure.
"...Jesus was lifted up while the disciples were looking on. . .and two men in white clothing stood beside the disciples and said, 'This Jesus, who has been taken up from you into heaven, will come in just the same way as you have watched Him go into heaven.'" Acts 1:9-11
The second coming guarantees the believer's future salvation.
". . .for the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable. . .and this mortal must put on immortality." I Corinthians 15:51-53
The second coming declares Jesus as sovereign.
"Jesus said to the High Priest, 'You have said it yourself, nevertheless I tell you,. . ."
The second coming should:
Energize our worship, work and witness.
